The Month Locals Quietly Love
Ask people in Marrakech about the best month of the year and many will lower their voice and say "November," as if it's a secret they'd rather keep. The summer heat is gone, the souks are comfortable all day, the light turns golden by 4 p.m., and you can walk for hours without hunting for shade. The only thing you'll be hunting for is your jacket after sunset.
Why Visit Marrakech in November?
Perfect walking weather: warm sunny days, ideal for the Medina, the souks and the gardens
Fewer crowds: after the busy October holidays, the city feels calmer, except during the film festival week
The Marrakech International Film Festival: stars, galas and traditionally free open-air screenings on Jemaa el-Fna
The best shopping month: cool enough for long days in the souks, and early enough to ship a rug or gifts home before Christmas
Weather in Marrakech in November
Average daytime temperature: 20 to 24°C (68 to 75°F)
Average night temperature: 8 to 11°C (46 to 52°F)
Rainy days: usually only a few, often short showers
Daylight: about 10 and a half to 11 hours
Sunset: around 5:30 p.m., so plan outdoor visits earlier in the day
Local tip: the temperature drops fast after sunset. If you're eating on a rooftop or at the Jemaa el-Fna food stalls, bring a warm layer even if the afternoon felt like summer.
What to Pack
Light layers: T-shirts, a long-sleeve shirt, a light scarf
A warm jacket or sweater: riads and rooftops get chilly in the evening
Comfortable closed shoes: Medina streets are uneven and can be slippery after rain
Clothes that cover shoulders and knees: respectful in the old city
Sunglasses and sunscreen: the sun is still strong at midday
A small umbrella: just in case
The 8 Best Things to Do in Marrakech in November
1. Shop the Souks All Day
November's mild weather makes it the perfect month for long shopping sessions in the souks. Souk Semmarine is the main covered street, with textiles, babouches and general goods. Leather is in Souk Cherratine, spices and perfumes in Souk El Attarine, metal lamps in Souk Haddadine, and rugs around the Criée Berbère.
Where: north of Jemaa el-Fna, in the Medina
When: every day, most shops about 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. See our souk opening hours guide
Tip: go in the morning for calmer alleys and friendlier bargaining
With us: our Marrakech Souk Shopping Tour takes you to real artisans most visitors walk past
2. Buy a Rug Before Winter
November is the ideal month to choose a Moroccan rug: you can take your time in the rug souk without the heat, and there's still time to ship it home before the holidays. Learn the main styles first, like Beni Ourain and Azilal (see our guide to the difference between Beni Ourain and Azilal rugs), or the sequined wedding blanket known as the handira.
Where: around the Criée Berbère, the old rug auction square
Tip: never buy on your first visit to a shop. Compare and sleep on it
With us: our Rug Shopping Tour takes you to specialists, with no pressure to buy
3. Eat Your Way Through Jemaa el-Fna
In the late afternoon, food stalls set up on Jemaa el-Fna and the square turns into a giant open-air restaurant. In November, a bowl of hot harira soup or a glass of mint tea is the perfect way to warm up after sunset. During the film festival, the square also traditionally hosts free open-air screenings.
Where: Jemaa el-Fna, the main square of the Medina
When: busiest from sunset until late evening
Tip: choose stalls full of locals and food cooked in front of you
4. Visit the Bahia Palace (Perfect on a Rainy Day)
If you get one of November's rare rainy days, head to the Bahia Palace. Much of the visit is indoors or under cover, with painted cedar ceilings, zellige tiles and marble courtyards. When the rain stops, the gardens smell of orange trees and wet earth.
Where: near the Mellah, in the south of the Medina
When: usually open daily from about 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tip: arrive at opening time to avoid the tour groups
With us: a highlight of our Medina Walking Tour
5. Relax in the Gardens
November light is perfect for Marrakech's gardens. Jardin Majorelle is famous for its cobalt-blue villa and cacti, and the Musée Yves Saint Laurent next door is hosting an exhibition on explorer Odette du Puigaudeau until March 2027. Inside the Medina, Le Jardin Secret is a peaceful break between two shopping sessions.
Where: Jardin Majorelle in Gueliz; Le Jardin Secret in the Medina
Tip: Majorelle tickets are sold online for timed slots, so book the first morning slot
6. Find Antiques and Start Your Christmas Shopping
November is the month to find unique gifts: old silver jewelry, vintage textiles, brass lamps, painted ceramics and real argan oil. Antique dealers in the Medina hide real treasures, but also plenty of replicas.
Tip: ask about age and origin, and always compare before buying
With us: our Antiques Shopping Tour takes you to trusted dealers, and our Argan Oil Shopping Tour to a partner with a certified lab
7. Take a Day Trip to the Atlas Mountains
The Atlas Mountains are less than two hours away, and November is a great month for walking. The Ourika Valley and the village of Setti Fatma are known for their waterfalls; the first one is an easy walk, the others need good shoes.
Where: about an hour south of Marrakech
Tip: bring a warm layer, it's cooler in the mountains
8. See the Desert From a Hot Air Balloon
Sunrise balloon flights over the Agafay desert and the Atlas foothills are spectacular in autumn. In November, the early morning air is cold, so dress warmly.
Where: flights usually leave from the countryside around Marrakech, with early hotel pickup by the balloon company
Tip: book a sunrise flight on your first days, in case a flight is postponed because of weather
