Marrakech Souks Shopping Tour Guide
The Marrakech souks are a maze of specialized markets, each with its own craft, and a shopping tour with a local insider is the easiest way to find the best of them without getting lost.
First-time visitors to the souks usually go through three stages: wonder, confusion, and "how did we end up at the dyers' souk again?" We've spent years turning that confusion back into wonder. At Visit Marrakech Medina, shopping is our specialty: insider access to trusted artisans, real knowledge of quality and prices, and a discreet service trusted by demanding travelers, luxury buyers and even a few very famous clients we will never name. The Main Souks of Marrakech
The souks are not one big market. Traditionally, each alley or square belongs to one trade:
Souk Semmarine: the main artery, full of textiles, kaftans, scarves and souvenirs.
Souk el Attarine: once the spice and perfume souk, today known for brass, lanterns and metalwork.
Souk Haddadine: the blacksmiths' quarter, where lamps and wrought iron are made in front of you.
Souk Cherratine: leather bags, belts, poufs and jackets.
Souk Smata: babouches, the colorful Moroccan slippers.
Souk Chouari: woodworkers, cedar boxes and carved furniture.
Souk des Teinturiers: the dyers' souk, with skeins of wool drying overhead.
Rahba Kedima: the old square for spices, herbs, baskets and traditional cosmetics.
Criée Berbère: the historic rug market, where carpets and kilims are still traded.
What a Souks and Shopping Tour Includes
You meet your guide in the Medina and share your list and budget. Your guide then builds a route through the souks that match what you want, introduces you to trusted artisans, explains how each craft is made, and helps you check quality and bargain for a fair price. For a full step-by-step look at the experience, see our Souk Shopping Tour page.
You are never forced into a shop. Shopping is always your choice, and you can simply watch the artisans work if you prefer.
